A report from three months in the dropout

Written by Michael Pullmann | 9/14/24 8:00 AM

lifeIt's hard to believe that it's now been three months since I left Germany. What began as a test run has developed into an intensive, instructive and sometimes chaotic journey. Three months in which I decided to leave the system behind and seek my happiness in freedom - be it on Mallorca or somewhere else.

I learned a lot in those three months. I have met great people who have inspired and supported me, as well as those who have brought me to the brink of despair. My long hair is off and I haven't regretted it for a day. Life as a dropout means no longer having firm roots, no home of your own to retreat to. Instead, you are constantly dependent on finding solutions to everyday challenges. The concept of “room and board” with different hosts sounded wonderful at first, but it also made me dependent on the favor of others.

Sometimes everything worked out perfectly, but there were also moments when everything fell apart and I found myself in a completely new situation from one day to the next. Especially in August and July, when the island of Mallorca is flooded with migrant workers, it became difficult to find a new host. A situation that almost made me sleep under the open sky - a real challenge that pushed me to my limits.

But then something amazing happened.
As so often in life, the answer came from an unexpected place: the Leo Well Culture and Art House. It was a real blessing to be able to stay there for a few days. But the journey continued, and soon my path led me back to Germany, to the Baltic Sea. There I not only found a wonderful host, but also a place that had a profound impact on me. The people in this small village inspired me and opened up new perspectives. It was the perfect end to my three-month entry into the dropout life.

What comes next when you move outside the system? Without the opportunity to take on a “normal” job, the question arises: where will the money come from? I still have so many goals and visions that I want to realize not only for myself, but also for others.

It's so easy to say:
I already have hosts for the near future, and there are also art events coming up. Dates are open for the end of 2024 and 2025. I'm looking for a place where I can stay and help - preferably in exchange for a certain amount as compensation to cover my travel expenses and insurance. But I don't need much. If I can travel the world for room and board, I can get by on very little money.

I firmly believe that there are people who appreciate my work and support me so that my dropout journey can continue. Get in touch! I look forward to being your guest and helping you wherever the shoe pinches. Get in touch via my homepage at pullmann-art.com. Let me hear from you, I'm really looking forward to meeting you.
