Surfing the waves of life: The art of combining trust and control
The game of the ruler and the fool
A good friend, Magnus, for whom I have already painted my own frequency picture, sent me a link to an interesting personality test some time ago: “The 12 Archetypes of the Hero's Journey”. First of all: you answer a few questions and receive 12 archetypes that resonate with you. These describe the stage of development you are at on your very own hero's journey in life. The presentation and explanations were also very exciting, because we are always in a life development, no matter where we are in life and what challenges lie ahead of us. In my YouJourney test and of course in my art, I address a very similar topic: the personal journey and transformation. Coincidentally, my friend had also told me that she had taken the same test. Yes, always these “coincidences”.
Synchronicities - simultaneities in life
I'll include the link to the test later, but before we get to that, I'd like to tell you why I'm dedicating a blog post to this topic. Since I've been traveling from place to place as a system dropout and nomad, I no longer have much space in my big backpack. Every little item has to be weighed up to save every centimeter of space and every gram of weight. Despite all these measures, I decided to take my tarot card set with me. I have developed my own intuitive reading method that helps me find my way and make decisions - with powerful results. The cards that keep pointing clearly to me and keep popping up are the “Fool” and the “Ruler”.
The Fool stands for the attitude of trusting life - trusting in guardian angels and God's plan - and letting go of all your own ideas. The “ruler”, on the other hand, stands for leaving nothing to chance, tackling things and manifesting and creating according to your own imagination. At first, I didn't realize how these two completely opposite cards could go together, because I feel a strong connection to both of them.
Learn to surf
The message behind this is a deep spiritual realization that you have probably come across before. The core of this message is to live life as if you were surfing. You take your surfboard, swim out and wait for a wave. It's the same in life: The waves that come are forces of nature that you can't control. You can only accept them as they come. You need to trust in things - figuratively speaking, like the fool. But when a wave comes that you can ride, it's up to you to take control and be the ruler of your surfboard and the wave that carries you back to land. It takes a lot of practice to keep your balance. Sometimes a wave comes that you can ride perfectly, and sometimes you get thrown off again.
For me, the Ruler and the Fool should be seen as the basic attitude in life. In the test of the 12 archetypes, they are two of the four archetypes that represent the target state in the Hero's Journey. It is somehow the analogy to God's plan and free will in life. The Fool is the naive one who lets go of everything and leaves it to “chance”. He has faith in God and remains confident, no matter what happens. He trusts in his guardian angel. The ruler, on the other hand, manifests. He rules and creates his reality - at best out of kindness.
